OHIO’S BLUE ENVELOPE PROGRAM

Safety • Communication • Inclusion

Bridging communication gaps between first responders and community members.

 Program Overview

The Blue Envelope Program is designed to promote inclusion and enhance communication between first responders and community members with communication differences and disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder, dementia, physical disabilities, and/or mental health conditions which may require additional accommodations or awareness during law enforcement or emergency interactions.

How it Works:

Eligibility for Auglaize DD services is not required. Blue Envelope Packets are available at no cost to anyone with a disability or communication barrier as a driver or passenger in a vehicle. each packet contains the following:

Blue Envelope

• To hand to law enforcement officer/first responder with necessary information written on the outside and documents placed inside.

• Recommended items to keep inside: copy of ID, vehicle registration, vehicle insurance card.

Window Decal

• Discreetly communicate to law enforcement/first responders that a person in that vehicle may have a disability which could affect their actions or speech.

• Recommended placement: bottom left corner of rear window.

Wallet Card

• A smaller version of the envelope with important information and can be kept in a wallet, pocket, or purse to be used anywhere.
