Month-long Celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Concludes

Julie Herbst reads a resolution from the Auglaize County Commissioners to members of the Auglaize DD Board during the October 16th meeting.

From a resolution signed by the Auglaize County Commissioners to the presentation of certificates to 16 area employers, October was a busy month for recognizing businesses that think inclusively when hiring.

Two of those businesses, New Bremen Machine & Tool and McCullough Transportation Services, each employ two individuals served by Auglaize DD.

In line with this year’s theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month, “Inclusion Drives Innovation,” Michelle Fischer of McCullough expressed appreciation for the support and unique ideas that have brought their innovative process for inclusive hiring to fruition.

“Thank you for… providing the beautiful certificate of recognition,” said Michelle. “We will proudly display this, and also be reminded of all the wonderful people we are able to share our days with thanks to this wonderful relationship we have established with the help of Auglaize DD.”

When asked about the job he has held for over a year, McCullough employee, Kirk Cunningham, excitedly replied, “I love it!”

The Auglaize DD Board thanks those who took the time to join us in celebrating individuals with disabilities and their contributions and achievements to the American workforce.

We encourage all employers to increase diversity in the workplace by considering people of all abilities when hiring. Anyone interested in learning more may e-mail Julie Herbst for additional information.

By working together, we can improve our communities and fulfill our mission to ensure individuals with developmental disabilities have access to quality supports, providing them opportunities to live, learn, work and play in our community.
