Board Receives Project SEARCH Updates and Proclamation from Auglaize Commissioners
The Auglaize County Board of Developmental Disabilities held its regular meeting October 16th at Otterbein St. Marys Senior Lifestyle Community in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM).
As the host business for the Project SEARCH internship program in Auglaize County, Otterbein provided the ideal setting to highlight the value of an inclusive workforce.
Board members received an update on the program’s first year from Kathy Jeffries of St. Marys City Schools who introduced JT Lucia, Project SEARCH activities intern; JT’s mother Jenni Schaub; and Andrew Ellis, Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities.
Kathy shared that in just six short weeks, the interns have learned to navigate the large campus and are settling into their first rotation of assignments.
Those assignments include: dietary, grounds and maintenance, activities and the business office.
Kathy noted the staff and residents of Otterbein have already come to depend on the talents and contributions of the interns while JT expressed excitement about his job and the people he works with.
Following Project SEARCH updates, Julie Herbst, Auglaize DD Community Connections Specialist, presented the Board with a resolution signed by Auglaize County Commissioners John Bergman, Don Regula and Douglas Spencer recognizing NDEAM and area employers who think inclusively when hiring.
The Auglaize DD Board will present certificates of recognition throughout the month to those area employers.
Any employers interested in learning more about increasing diversity in their workplace may e-mail Julie for additional information.
